Prayer and Service

Service
“Therefore strive that your actions day by day may be beautiful prayers.”

‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Service is an expression of love to our Creator. Just as the purpose of a candle is to give light, the soul was created to offer itself generously to others. Through selfless service our personal growth becomes possible, and we gradually develop the capacity to contribute to the progress of humanity.

The capacities of each person achieve their highest expression when they are put to the service of society. Service offered with detachment, purity of intention and joy transforms us and allows us to become more conscious of the spiritual forces that surround us:

“The betterment of the world can be accomplished through pure and goodly deeds, through commendable and seemly conduct.”

Bahá’u’lláh

When Bahá’í temples are raised, the practice of prayer and service gradually cause individuals to join in harmony, and their hearts to flourish with unity and affection.
